More questions about choosing your wraparound baby sling

Today Shona emailed us to help her choose her wrap. Our reponse bounced back so I'm posting it here. Shona, in case you read this, please get in touch with us again. And if you're just reading this and have more questions, don't hesitate to email us (infoATcalinbleu.com) but remember to give us the right email address.

Questions: "I am planning to get a sling for my 2nd baby due in December. Do you think it is worth getting a micro fleece one or will baby just be too hot by the spring? (We live in York.) Assuming baby was in a snow suit, would a normal fabric one be better?
Do you have a shop? My parents live in Glasgow, so I was wondering if it's possible to come and try products on.
What sort of instructions come with the carrier? I am particularly interested in how to breast-feed whilst wearing it."

Some answers: The micro fleece wrap will be nice and snuggly for winter. It could be fine in spring depending on the weather but you will be too warm this summer.
Padded Snowsuits aren't necessarily the easiest to carry the baby, they make it awkward to adjust the sling. Fleece all-in-one suits work well - Check out Little Possums' website, they have some lovely ones. Or wear a large coat or jacket over the two of you.

We don't have a shop in Glasgow but you're welcome to come and try the products anyway, Calin Bleu is a home-based business. We are in the West End. You can also join us at the next Sling Meet on October 25th.

The wrap around sling comes with a 24-page instruction booklet showing how to use the sling. The position for breastfeeding isn't in the booklet but you can find it on the site.

Gorgeous wraps!

Kids are going back to school, autumn is just around the corner and with it, it's time for our gorgeous micro fleece wrap baby slings to come back.

They are YUMMY, soft, easy to wrap, light, just warm enough to keep you comfortable and yet not too warm so you can wear them indoors as well.

There are available in 4 colours: plain navy or charcoal or for a sense of fun & style, BlueSky (sky panel on a navy wrap) and Pumpkin (pumpkin panel on a charcoal wrap)

One size fits all.
They make lovely present for a new baby.

And with them we introduce our new team member: our little boy was born on August 2nd and you will see his little face on more photos over the next few months.

New step by step instructions for you baby sling

As promised, we are adding more step by step instructions showing you how to use your wraparound sling.

Today is the Simple Cross Carry.

The Simple Cross Carry is a variation of the traditional carrying position. It is nice and easy to pop baby in and out of the wraparound sling without untying everything.

Since this carry uses a little bit less fabric, it is convenient for parents of different sizes who share the same wrap and for whom the wrap is too short for the wrap cross carry.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate, just get in touch with us!

More wraps added to the clearance

They've been flying off the shelves so we've been able to unpack a couple more boxes that were stashed away!

The Yummy Olive baby carries are back on the site with various lengths going from 4m (very convenient length for back carries) to 5 meters. If you need help with choosing the size, just email us.

The Simply Natural cotton baby slings have also been added, they are just being washed and dried as I type so they reach you all soft and ready to use. We've added the standard length wraps but there are a couple of short length to be added as well. They are finished with a soft green rolled hem.

All these are at clearance price, so now is the time to grab a bargain for your baby carrier. Free postage to most of Europe!

How the Calin Bleu have evolved over the years.

As promised, we're answering your questions about baby slings on our baby wearing FAQ.

Yesterday, Cynthia asked us why the Cool Wrap she bought was different from the one she saw at a recent Sling Meet.

The Calin Bleu cotton wraparound slings have evolved over the years. We used to hand-dye the fabric. This process left the fabric crinkly. Apart from the cost involved, it also meant that the customer had to set the dyes before using their baby sling.

In Spring 2006, we moved to different dyeing process. The fabric is actually the same but is much softer and flatter. It's still best to give your baby wrap a quick wash before using it to fluff up the fibres but it is no longer necessary to set the dyes. The colours don't run, even the darker colours!

The fabric is custom-dyed in the UK for Calin Bleu, the environmental agency controls dyers to make sure that the dye residues are filtered so that nothing harmful is rejected in the environment. We also make sure that none of the components used can be harmful.

You may also notice that the hems are sewn slightly differntly. Hems are crucial in wraparound slings, especially light wraps like the Cool Wraps to ensure that they are comfortable, even with heavier children. Based on our research, customer's feedback and our suppliers' suggestions, we continue to improve our wraps so that you and your baby can be comfortable.

Remember, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.
